      <image:caption>On the 14th of November 1940 a German bombing raid destroyed the centre of Coventry and the medieval Cathedral, St Michael. A decision was made to preserve the ruins and build a new Cathedral. This new building, designed by Basil Spence opened its doors to the people of Coventry in 1962.</image:caption>
